I was deeply saddened to learn of the untimely passing of my dear friend and brother in Christ - John Brownlee.
I met John many years ago either through All Souls' Church, or via social circles, and we had a great connection. We would often meet in one of his regular pit stops: Waterstones; The Tiled Cafe @ Leeds Town Hall; Borders Bookshop (back in the day).
I remember a time when I was going through an extremely difficult journey in my life, and John was always there as a true friend to offer reassuring spiritual guidance that was both poignant and selfless. We communicated as recently as Christmas Day 2020 when I offered a doorstep-socially-distanced sherry after one of his night shifts. Sadly he declined but home seemed more pressing.
John and I would speak passionately about graphic design and a book of poetry that he had been working on. We also worked closely on Church projects as part of the Treasures Revealed series in Leeds. He had a love of graphic design and creativity.
Speaking of Church, John was a much loved figure at All Souls' in Woodhouse/Little London (Leeds), where he served as Churchwarden and the curate team for many years. He always had a positive word for anyone who came up in conversation and his text messages reveal a man who knew the power of Christ and God's endless love, and wasn't afraid to impart his wisdom and share his love.
On behalf of his friends and family at the Church, I want to offer my most sincere condolences to his family and friends he leaves behind. Brother John you will be sadly missed, and I am certain that you are already on your next journey with your big heart and warm smile. You may no longer be here, but your spirit will live on. It has been a blessing knowing you.
Luke on behalf of Dave, Monica, Keith (Organist), Michael, Francis and Fr Robin.
